Ellie is providing the raw materials for a small business which creates local employment which in turn trains villagers with new skills, educates and supports villagers and aids improvement with social and cultural relations.
The Sri Lankan Elephant produces about 1 tonne of waste material per week which is collected by local villagers. The waste material is then taken to be cleansed and purified. This is done by thoroughly washing the material and boiling for a considerable time. It is then dried and is converted into a high concentrate dry paper pulp for exporting to the UK. The paper is made by a specialist paper Mill in the UK using a traditional steam run machine dating back to 1895.
